SKILLMAN, N.J. - For the seventh time in the last nine weeks, a new team appears at No. 1 on the women's side in the Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings. In the ever-changing women's team rankings, North Carolina has jumped back ahead of Baylor to claim the No. 1 spot for the third time in the last four weeks. Meanwhile, the Virginia men continue to hold the top spot for the ninth-straight week, since capturing the ITA Men's Team Indoor title.
Ranked No. 2 in last week's rankings, the Tar Heels climbed to the top spot by knocking off three top 20 ACC opponents including a hotly-contested 4-3 victory over in-state rival and the defending NCAA Champion, Duke, in which the Heels had to battle back from a 3-1 deficit.
After the grueling match with the Blue Devils, UNC showed no signs of fatigue as they went on to sweep Clemson, their second-straight win against a top 10 team in a matter of three days. North Carolina completed its treacherous roadtrip with a win over then-No. 20 Georgia Tech to remain undefeated in ACC play, with just two home matches against Miami (FL) and Florida State remaining.
