USC Women, Oklahoma Men Remain Ranked No. 1 in ITA National Team Rankings
No change to the women's Top 4 or men's Top 3
ITA Division I Men's Rankings | ITA Division I Women's Rankings
SKILLMAN, NJ (March 31) - Order has been restored to the ITA Division I National Men's and Women's Team Rankings after chaos has been the story in the past few weeks, as both the men's Top 3 and women's Top 4 remain intact this week. The USC Trojan women are entrenched in the No. 1 ranking for the second week, as are No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 California and No. 4 UCLA behind them. On the men's side, No. 1 Oklahoma is trailed by No. 2 Baylor and No. 3 Illinois.
The first change in the women's rankings comes between the nation's top-ranked SEC teams, as Georgia and Florida have swapped the No. 5 and No. 6 rankings. No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Florida are set to settle the matter on April 10 in Gainesville, where the Gators have won 143 consecutive contests.
Baylor retained the No. 7 ranking this week, while Vanderbilt moved up from No. 10 to No. 8 by picking up road wins over No. 12 Alabama and No. 42 Auburn. No. 9 Virginia fell one spot after falling at home to No. 16 Miami (FL) and Stanford rounds out the Top 10 this week after picking up wins against No. 23 Arizona State and No. 41 Arizona.
No. 16 Miami (FL) missed a chance to boost their ranking this week. After upsetting Virginia in Charlottesville on Friday, the Hurricanes were then bitten by the upset bug themselves, losing a close contest to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Sunday. The Hokies improved 13 spots to No. 34 this week and have won five of their last six matches, while Miami (FL) is ranked No. 16 for the second straight week.
No. 18 Texas Tech made a move this week with wins over No. 13 Oklahoma State and No. 32 Oklahoma. The wins afforded the Red Raiders a five-spot boost up the rankings and they now sit in second place in the Big 12 standings, trailing only Baylor. LSU made a similar leap to Texas Tech's this week, propelled upward from No. 41 to No. 25 with road wins over No. 26 Mississippi and No. 44 Mississippi State, both of whom were ranked ahead of the Tigers last week.
On the men's side, the Big 12 held the Top 2 spots and four of the Top 10 rankings for the second consecutive week. Virginia displaced Duke as the top-ranked ACC squad with 6-1 conference wins over the Blue Devils and the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Cavaliers' 7-0 ACC record helped in their four-spot hike to the No. 4 spot.
Though its only win of the week was a 6-1 win over No. 71 South Alabama on Monday, Memphis climbed back into the Top 50 at No. 47. Just two weeks ago, the Tigers were on the verge of falling out the rankings at No. 73 after three straight ranked losses. Memphis started the season with five weeks inside the Top 25 before falling 51 spots in one month. A 4-2 win over the resurgent SMU Mustangs (No. 34) on March 21, one of three victories in a four-day span, powered the Tigers' 36-spot ascent in the last two weeks.
Ranked right behind the Tigers at No. 48 is Rice, who has not been ranked among the Top 75 since March 3. The Owls swept the competition at the Rice Invitational for the eighth consecutive year, posting decisive wins over No. 40 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Louisiana and George Washington. Rice bested its highest previous ranking of No. 75 by 27 spots.
